Nevill Holt Opera, one of the countryside’s most popular opera festivals, has applied for planning permission for a 400-seat theatre to be built on its estate in Leicestershire.
If approved the plans would see a new opera house, designed by Witherford Watson Mann Architects, constructed in the listed 17th century stable block on the property. This would replace the festival’s temporary seating and cater for the expanding demand for festival tickets: Nevill Holt Opera saw a 40% rise in sales in 2016 alone.
As a permanent structure, the new theatre would also house year-round education programmes for the local community.
Nevill Holt Opera has been running since 2013, and focuses on nurturing young operatic talent through its summer festival programme.
