Rural brands we love: North Clothing

The Buckland Blazer

Trying on a piece of clothing that doesn’t fit is a pretty dispiriting experience, particularly when it happens on a regular basis. Just ask any woman over 5ft 9, all of whom struggle to find clothing that’s long enough, let alone tailored to their elongated figures.

“If you’re in ill-fitting clothes it bothers you, and restricts you from being your best possible self.” Laura Crabb

The Sudeley Coat

Although there are a few companies who provide ‘tall’ ranges, there simply isn’t the wealth of choice you’d expect for a market comprising over 1.8 million women in the UK alone.

Enter rural entrepreneur Laura Crabb, whose own experiences as a tall woman opened her eyes to the need for luxurious, beautiful clothing aimed specifically at people like her. She therefore set up her own fashion business, using 20 years’ experience in business development to assemble a team of experts and form the North Clothing Co, based just outside of Winchcombe.

Focusing on creating timeless wardrobe staples, North designs and makes all its clothes in Britain using high quality Italian fabrics. Its rural base provides many benefits, including the space for them to take in fashion interns from their local university, and the company is committed to keeping its manufacturing business in Britain, stating: “we need to be hands on and close enough to be able to tweak, amend and perfect our products to ensure a consistent fit and quality every time.”

Launched just a few months ago, the company is already a hit with fashion bloggers and aims to grow its current small collection using customer feedback. Given that their designers have been recruited from top British fashion brands, they seem well placed to develop future collections of both work and leisure wear. We wish them every success!
