What’s a MERL, you ask? It stands for the Museum of English Rural Life, and it’s reopening this weekend after a £3,000,000 redevelopment.
Based at the University of Reading, the MERL ‘aims to challenge perceptions about rural England by revealing the historical and contemporary relevance of country life, culture and environment’.
To celebrate its reopening, the museum is hosting a one-day festival full of perception-challenging things such as morris dancing, a petting zoo and apple pressing.
The festivities kick off at 10am, and you can find more details on their Facebook page. The museum does also have an official website but it’s currently down – hopefully due to the volume of traffic.
We wish the MERL every success, and if you’d like to write us a review of the opening festival or the new museum please get in touch.
